Velocity motion blur

Fling a grid of plates and they smear along the scroll axis — the faster, the longer the smear — then sharpen back as the velocity decays to zero. A directional blur, not a soft focus: an SVG filter with zero blur across and up to 14px along.

What it is

Fling a grid of photos and they streak in the direction you threw them, then sharpen as they slow. It is the visual cue that makes a screen feel like it has weight: fast scrolling looks fast. Suited to galleries, feeds and any image-heavy list on a product that wants to feel physical rather than paged. The effect switches itself off the moment the list rests, so it costs nothing while you read.
